Samuel Miduk Anugrah Pasaribu, a student of class 2020 Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Diponegoro University, formed a collaboration team with four other members: Andi Alifsyah Dyasham (Universitas Brawijaya), Patricia Quina Gita Naviri (University of Indonesia), Dina Ferdinasari and Gilang Ramadhan (Bandung Institute of Technology). Samuel and his team created an innovation to help deaf students, especially for elementary school education, entitled TERANA (Teman Indra Indonesia): Website-based Deaf Student Learning Media Package.

TERANA offers learning packages that can be accessed through the website equipped with flashcards and LKS (Student Worksheets). The TERANA website can be a companion for deaf students practicing speaking with a voice recognition feature that will assess whether the pronunciation of words from LKS is appropriate. Learning tools other than LKS are flashcards, cards with features that will display learning videos on the TERANA website when scanned.

The TERANA team found that some areas still lack facilitators for deaf students. This is the beginning of the creation of TERANA innovation by utilizing the development of digital technology. The TERANA team created this application with the hope that it can facilitate deaf students in elementary schools in improving their access to education and help achieve educational equality with other students.

Samuel shared that the TERANA design process was carried out online and required good coordination. “Difficulties in coordination are a challenge for us because of regional differences and very long distances,” he said. The team is divided by two main tasks. The team that compiles the curriculum and designs flashcards and LKS is done by team members from UI, ITB, and IPB. Meanwhile, Samuel and team members from UB who have the same field of education, are tasked with designing their technology needs. Every week there will be an evaluation of the progress of each member until the finalization stage.
