Pemalang, tekkom.ft.undip.ac.id – In an effort to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 6, which emphasizes access to clean water and proper sanitation, students of the 2023/2024 Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Team II from Diponegoro University have implemented a program to create simple water filters in Mengori Village. This program aims to assist the village community, who still face issues with water quality containing sand deposits, despite the high demand for water in the area.
With this objective in mind, the KKN Undip team provided training and guidance to the residents of Mengori Village on how to create simple faucet water filters using easily accessible materials. “We aim to help the Mengori community gain sustainable and affordable access to clean water. This simple water filter can be a practical solution to purify tap water before consumption,” explained Willy Verdela, the leader of KKN Undip Team II.
On July 23, 2024, the KKN Undip team conducted socialization, training, and assistance at various locations in Mengori Village. This activity was met with enthusiasm by the residents, particularly housewives and Posyandu volunteers. “Previously, we relied solely on well water, which was sometimes murky, and few residents used the public water system. With this homemade water filter, we can purify water to make it cleaner and safer for daily use,” said Mrs. Aniek, one of the training participants.
Through this program, the KKN Undip team hopes that the people of Mengori Village will become more aware of the importance of consuming clean water free from harmful deposits, improve the quality of water they use daily, and safeguard their health. Additionally, this initiative is expected to contribute to the achievement of SDG number 6 in Mengori Village, which is to ensure access to clean water and proper sanitation and support the realization of sustainable development by 2030.
“We are proud to contribute to Mengori Village’s efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. Collaboration between students, the village government, and the community is key to the success of this program,” added Sigit Febrianto, S.Kel., M.Si., the KKN supervising lecturer.
Moving forward, the KKN Undip team will continue to support the residents of Mengori Village in maintaining and developing this simple water filter program. It is hoped that this initiative can serve as an inspiration for other villages to improve access to clean water and sustainable sanitation.
