Colonel Tunggul Puliwarna Discusses Maritime Surveillance Technology in Computer Engineering Guest Lecture

Semarang, tekkom.ft.undip.ac.id – The Department of Computer Engineering at Diponegoro University successfully held a guest lecture titled “Utilizing Computer Technology in Surveillance Systems for Marine Security and Safety” on Friday, October 4, 2024. The event, hosted in the Theater Room of the Prof. Ir. Eko Budihardjo Building at the Faculty of Engineering, featured Dr. Ir. Tunggul Puliwarna, M.T., M.Tr., Opsla, CIQnR, CIQaR, a Senior Computer Specialist from the Indonesian Maritime Security Agency (Bakamla RI), as the main speaker. The lecture was moderated by Yudi Eko Windarto, S.T., M.Kom., a faculty member in Computer Engineering.

The event began with an opening speech by Dr. Oky Dwi Nurhayati, S.T., M.T., Head of the Computer Engineering Department. Following the speaker’s introduction by the moderator, Colonel Tunggul opened his presentation by explaining the crucial role of Bakamla RI in safeguarding Indonesia’s waters, especially to support international trade activities crossing national maritime territories.

Colonel Tunggul emphasized that as maritime threats increase, the need for more advanced maritime surveillance systems has also grown. Computer technology is pivotal in developing a Maritime Surveillance System capable of real-time ship tracking and detecting anomalies that could threaten maritime security.

The participants’ enthusiasm was evident from the numerous questions asked during the Q&A session, highlighting the students’ strong interest in the topic.

The event concluded with the presentation of a certificate to Colonel Tunggul by Dr. Oky. This guest lecture aimed to provide students with fresh insights into the practical applications of computer technology in the professional world, particularly in maritime security. Furthermore, it is hoped that this event will inspire students to continue exploring the potential of computer technology in enhancing national security and safety.
