Semarang, tekkom.ft.undip.ac.id – The Computer Engineering Department at Diponegoro University successfully hosted a guest lecture featuring Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hanafi bin Ahmad Hijazi from Universiti Malaysia Sabah. Held on Friday, August 30, under the theme “Feature Engineering: The Hidden Key to AI Excellence,” the lecture took place in Room A 201, Computer Engineering Laboratory Building.
During the session, Assoc. Prof. Hanafi, along with moderator Kuntoro Adi Nugroho, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., discussed automated feature engineering, an approach that simplifies feature extraction in AI development. He began by outlining the challenges of traditional feature engineering and highlighted the benefits of automation, including improved efficiency, scalability, accessibility, and the ability to handle complex data.
The event was highly interactive, with enthusiastic participants engaging in discussions about various case studies presented. Assoc. Prof. Hanafi emphasized the importance of identifying crucial factors affecting outcomes and thinking beyond standard techniques to transform raw data into valuable features in innovative ways. He also noted that combining traditional and automated feature engineering often results in more refined and accurate features.
To conclude the event, Dr. Oky Dwi Nurhayati, S.T., M.T., Head of the Computer Engineering Department, presented a plaque of appreciation to Assoc. Prof. Hanafi. Following the lecture, Assoc. Prof. Hanafi and Prof. Dr. Jamari, S.T., M.T., IPU, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, signed an Implementation Arrangement between the Bachelor of Computer Engineering Program and the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, at the Prof. Ir. Eko Budihardjo Building. This agreement marks the beginning of a collaborative academic partnership between the two institutions.
